This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Johnson Correctional Center located at 1856 E Flynn St in Alva, OK are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
The Charles E. "Bill" Johnson Correctional Center (BJCC) is a minimum security state facility that is a dedicated substance abuse/cognitive behavior program facility operated by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections located in Alva OK. Johnson Correctional houses about 584 adult male felony drug offenders. BJCC is named for Charles E. “Bill” Johnson. A state leader in setting up a facility for drug offenders, Johnson helped create a 300-bed Drug Offender Work Camp called the Regimented Treatment Program (RTP) at the facility, opened in 1985.
BJCC hosts two Specialized Units – the Delayed Sentencing Program for eligible offenders age 18-22 and the Regimented Treatment Program for eligible drug offenders. In November 2012, an additional 100-bed minimum security housing unit was added outside the main treatment program compound.
All trainees at BJCC who have not completed their secondary education are required to attend education classes. Trainees can obtain certification in Literacy, ABE as well as earn their General Equivalency Diploma.
The mission of the BJCC is in a safe and secure minimum security correctional environment, provide a comprehensive regimented substance abuse treatment program, meaningful work opportunities through institutional jobs and the Prisoner Public Work Program, educational opportunities, quality, efficient, and cost-effective health care services and, through re-entry and aftercare, return the offender to society with the tools necessary to be a productive citizen, in an effort to reduce recidivism.
