Owyhee County Jail basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 208-495-1154

This facility is for adult inmates.

The Owyhee County Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 20381 Hwy 78 Murphy, ID which is operated locally by the Owyhee County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Owyhee County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Murphy Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

Inmates may receive written letters and standard photographs. Polaroid photographs, stamps, envelopes, and other forwarded items are not allowed. Mail or publications containing images or depictions of sexual situations, nudity or sexual acts are prohibited. In addition, mail cannot contain:

  • Glitter or stickers
  • Intimidating or harassing statements
  • Gang-related writings or drawings
  • Plans that violate state, local, federal laws, or jail rules
  • Plans to send contraband (such as drugs) in or out of the jail
  • Letters from other incarcerated inmates. (Unless approved prior by the Jail Administration.)

At the discretion of jail staff, mail or publications containing unauthorized references or material may be refused, confiscated, placed in the inmate’s property or returned to the sender.

The only items that will be accepted at the Owyhee County Jail will be – prescribed medications, reading/prescription glasses, money orders, legal papers from attorneys, and approved religious items. Books will be mailed to the jail in new condition and must be shipped direct from a retailer (i.e. Walmart, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble).

Inmate Money

There are two ways to deposit money to an inmate’s account:

  • In-person – A kiosk at the Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office accepts deposits using cash and Visa/debit cards.
  • Online – Visit CTEL to make a secure payment at inmatesales.com

Checks are not accepted and we do not recommend sending cash thru the mail.

**NO MORE THAN THREE VISITORS AT ONE TIME**
No more than 3 visitors may visit at one time.

Low cut shirts, tank tops, sleeveless tops, short shorts, mini skirts and bare midriffs are not allowed!

Cellphones, large bags, purses and recording devices of any kind are also not permitted!

Need to have your Telmate pin number to use visiting phones

You are required to use the phones within visiting, if not used visit will be terminated

Visits will be up to 30 minutes. (Unless otherwise advised by staff)

  • Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult
  • Adults must have a picture ID
  • You are only allowed 1 visit per inmate per day

IMPORTANT: If inmates are assigned to Disciplinary Segregation they will not be permitted visits with exceptions for attorney and clergy.
