The Pennington County SD Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 307 St. Joseph St Rapid City, SD which is operated locally by the Pennington County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Pennington County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Rapid City Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

How do I schedule a visit?
You can come to the Jail Lobby to schedule a video visit on Kiosk #2, or
You can click one of the links below to schedule a video visit online.
Inmates that have restricted visiting times are required to notify their family and friends for appropriate scheduling.
When you schedule a visit online, you will receive a Terminal Number and a PIN Number.
You MUST bring both if you are visiting from the self-serve kiosks in the Jail Lobby. Jail Staff do not have access to your account information.
If you do not bring your information, you will need to contact Securus Customer Service at 1-877-578-3658.

The Pennington County Jail is committed to ensuring that all inmates and visitors are protected under Federal, State and City Ordinances.
Under SDCL 25-10-13, Violation of Protection Orders or No Contact Orders may be considered a misdemeanor or felony. Any contact with the protected person(s) is a violation; whether it’s direct contact or through a third party.
The Pennington County Jail will notify Law Enforcement of any violations of SDCL 25-10-13 that occur by way of mail, email, phone, and visitation or through third party contact.
