This facility is for adult inmates.
The Pima County Adult Detention Complex – Main Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 1270 W Silverlake Rd Tuscon, AZ which is operated locally by the Pima County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Pima County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Tuscon Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Sheriff's Department provides detention services for law enforcement agencies in the metropolitan Tucson area and throughout Pima County. There are three Pima County Jail locations
- All letters must be sent in pre-printed/pre-stamped postage envelopes or metered postage.
- Letters written with gel pens will no longer be accepted and will be returned to the sender.
- Postal services are provided Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
- Inmates may order magazines, newspapers, soft cover books, etc. These items must come directly from the publisher or a widely accepted distributor.
- All mail is subject to search. Mail is not read except in the course of an investigation.
- Inmates may not receive any mail, books, or magazines showing explicit sexual conduct.
- All letters coming into and leaving the facility must be by U.S. Mail.
- Inmates must have prior permission to receive incoming packages.
- Inmates cannot receive any item that is available through the facility commissary.
- Authorization must be obtained 5 days before the package is sent. Packages will be opened and searched by the mail officer. This prior authorization does not apply to books and other publications sent from the publisher or from a widely accepted distributor.
- Acceptable forms of money (U.S. bank checks or money orders) will be removed from incoming mail and deposited into the inmate's account.
INMATE PROPERTY
Inmates must maintain one full set of clothing with Inmate Property; other stored personal property may be released to an outside party, someone not in the custody of the Pima County Adult Detention Complex. Property releases and clothing exchanges are conducted at the Property Release/Exchange window located in the property area of the Main Jail Complex. Call (520) 351-8112 for information.
Inmates with an active Superior Court trial may have three (3) sets of clothing for court appearances. One like-item must be exchanged for another; i.e., one shirt may be exchanged for another shirt, trousers for trousers, shoes for shoes, skirt for skirt, etc. Shoelaces, neckties, belts, and underclothing/stockings will not be accepted. An inmate must initiate the release of property by submitting an Inmate Property Transaction form. Only the individual named on the form will be allowed to pick up the property. Hours for property releases or exchanges at the Property Unit located at the Main Jail Complex, 1270 W. Silverlake Road, are 7:00am to 10:00pm daily.
Property belonging to an inmate transferred to the Department of Corrections may be picked up at the front desk of the Minimum Security Facility, 1801 S. Mission Road. Property may be picked-up:
- Monday through Friday 10:00am to 7:00pm.
- Sunday 10:00am to 1:00pm.
Property not picked up within thirty (30) days of the inmate's transfer will be disposed. Contact the Property Section at (520) 351-8281 or 351-8112 for additional information.
All property transactions require a valid government issued photo ID, i.e. driver's license, DES ID card, Arizona ID card, Military ID card, Passport, etc.

Pima County Adult Detention Complex – Main Jail – Visitation
Visitation Times
- Monday through Friday: 7:30 am – 11:00 am, 12:00 pm- 7:00 pm
- Saturday and Sunday: 7:30 am – 11:00 am and 12:00 pm – 2:15 pm
- Visitation is not available on Federal Holidays.
All on-site visitors are to report to the Main Jail Front Desk, located at 1270 W. Silverlake Road, Tucson, Az 85713 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visitation time. Please have a valid photo identification.
All visits will start and end at the scheduled times, regardless of arrival time. Late arrival of 15 minutes or more will result in the cancellation of the visit.
Visits – On-site and Remote – Inmates may have visitation once they have made their first court appearance and are assigned to a permanent housing unit. All visitations are conducted via video. Visits can be purchased as follows:
- On-site Visit: 1 free for 30 minutes per inmate, per week
Additional 30 minutes for $9.00 per inmate, per day - Remote (Online): 25 minutes for $7.50, unlimited/as schedule opening permits
55 minutes for $16.50, unlimited/as schedule opening permits
Both on-site and remote visitors will have to schedule their visits at least one to seven days in advance. Visitations will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. We no longer accept same day walk-in visits. Visitation times are:
Scheduling a Visit
All visits must be scheduled online at pimacountyaz.gtlvisitme.com or at the kiosk machine located in the main entrance lobby. Full instructions for scheduling a visit can be found here. How many can visit?
No more than 4 people may visit at a time. Juveniles must be accompanied by at least one adult. Children must be controlled and cannot be left unattended at any time.
Visitor Identification
Visitors must have a current photo ID, e.g., driver's license, DES ID card, Arizona ID card, Military ID, Passport, Travel Visa, U.S. B1/B2 Visa and Border Crossing card, Resident Alien card or Work permit. All ID's must have a photo, date of birth, and current address. Check cashing cards will not be accepted.
Special Visits/Circumstances
Special visits may be arranged, at the jail's convenience for family and friends who live outside a 100-mile radius and are only in town for a limited time. These special visits are scheduled on a one-time basis and cannot be used as an additional visit.
To request a special visit schedule your normal visit for the date and time and call the Jail Visits Hotline at (520)351-8114 or (520)351-8111. Leave your full name, date, time of the scheduled visit, confirmation number, phone number and request an extended visit. Someone will call you back to assist you.
Special Notes:
- All visitation is subject to unforeseen lock-down and other situations which may postpone or cancel all visitation.
- Inmates who are on disciplinary lockdown are not permitted visitation.
- There is no charge for lockers. You will be asked to properly secure your belongings prior to starting your visit.
- Juvenile inmates cannot receive visits until after 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday but are allowed visits during regular hours on Saturday and Sunday.
PUBLIC AND ONLINE REMOTE VISITATION RESTRICTIONS
Walk-in visits: Restrictions are posted and available for viewing at the front desk. Violation of the dress code or contraband policy will result in refusal or cancellation of your visitation.
Dress code Restrictions:
- Low cut neckline, sheer, strapless/backless blouses
- Spaghetti straps
- Tank or tube tops
- Sleeveless shirts (male & females)
- Shorts, dresses, skirts shorter than mid-thigh
- Overly tight, torn, or cut clothing
- Hats, bandannas, caps, stocking caps
- Gang or graphically explicit signs or emblems, designs, pictures or sayings
- Clothing that exposes or overly accentuates the body
Contraband items:
- Pens, pencils
- Cell phones, cameras
- Food any kind (gum, candy, mints, etc)
- Beverages or liquids
- Pictures, notes, letters
- Any tobacco products (not allowed into the building)
- Lighters, matches, flame-producing devices
- Makeup of any kind
- Cutting tools
- Caustic substances
- Strollers, baby carriers, diaper bags
- Glass or keys (other than locker keys)
- Purses or sunglasses
- Medications (exceptions made upon inspection)
Online remote visitation restrictions:
- No acts that encourage sexual behavior.
- No nudity or disrobing during the visit. Visitors must be fully dressed.
- No acts or behavior that are criminal under state, local, or federal statute.
- No gang signs or acts that encourage or promote gang activity.
- Any other irrational behavior that is deemed as inappropriate or perceived as a threat to the safety and security of the facility.
Violation of these restrictions will lead to termination of your “remote visitation” and subsequent suspension of your visitation privileges. Notification will be sent to the email address you registered with concerning your suspension. You will also be provided with information for appealing your suspension.
