The Plymouth County IA Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 451 4th Ave NE Le Mars, IA which is operated locally by the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Plymouth County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Le Mars Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The jail is a 54-bed facility that contains six pods. Each pod consists of individual cells, restroom and shower facilities and a day room. The pods are classified as the male general population, male maximum, female general population, female maximum, special status and work release. The jail also has a recreation area, medical room, booking room and control room.
GUIDELINES FOR INMATE MAIL
- Inmate mail will only be accepted through mail service and will not be accepted from individuals at the jail.
- The proper language will be used in writing letters. No coded letters will be permitted.
- Photos may be accepted through the mail only. No polaroids or sexually explicit photos will be allowed.
- All incoming inmate mail will be delivered in a timely manner after receipt.
- Any incoming mail that does not have a return name and address on it will be placed in the inmate’s personal property.
- All incoming mail will be opened and searched for contraband.
- Money (in the form of a Certified Check or a Money Order ONLY) for inmates will be accepted through the mail. Personal checks are NOT accepted. Cash may be dropped off at the jail.

Special Status
- Thursday 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
- General visitation will be limited to the approved visitor list at the designated times in the no contact visitation booths. Inmates will prepare a list with no more than four (4) names on the list.
- If the person is a minor (18 years of age and under), a parent or guardian will accompany them. The minor will be counted as one visitor and the accompanying parent or guardian will be counted as one visitor. The minor will be supervised at all times or the minor and the accompanying adult will be escorted from the facility.
- A maximum of two (2) visitors at once will be allowed in the public visitation room.
- The length of visitation is a total of 30 minutes, per scheduled visitation day, and will be prorated based on the number of visitors.
