The Robert N. Barnes Regional Juvenile Facility is a medium to low-security detention center located at 2310 Gollihar Road Corpus Christi, TX that is operated locally by the Juvenile Justice Department and holds youths awaiting the determination of punishment for the crimes which they are accused. Most of the adolescents are here for less than two years.

The Juvenile Detention Center handles the processing of all juvenile offenders within Nueces County. Juveniles are brought into the facility by Law Enforcement personnel and processed into the system. Depending on the severity of the offense, juveniles may be detained pending a hearing by a judge, or released to a parent or guardian.

The juvenile detention center has a 24 bed capacity with overflow of up to 16 additional beds. We currently detain juvenile from ages 10-17 for all types of offenses or by contract from smaller counties and/or other law enforcement agencies.

Telephone Calls: A resident may make one local or collect call on Tuesday and Friday between the hours 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The duration of the call is based on the resident’s level. Level I or II – 5 minute call Level III — 7 minute call Level IV — 10 minute call Residents may call only parents, guardians or custodians.

Educational Services

Educational services for juveniles in detention are provided by CCISD. The district provides 2 Certified Special Education teachers that see to the educational needs of detainees while in our care. The detainees will receive credit for their school work and attendance during their stay. All grades and attendance records are forwarded to their school of record upon release from the facility.

Treatment Philosophy:

The Robert N. Barnes Regional Juvenile Facility treatment philosophy is based on a comprehensive and integrated therapeutic system. This system focuses on the behavioral, educational and counseling needs of each resident. An individual Treatment Plan will address both the needs of the residents and the family support system. The treatment plan is a combined approach involving casework, individual and group counseling, specialized treatment, education, and behavior management techniques.

Program Philosophy:

The Robert N. Barnes Regional Juvenile Facility strongly believes in the multi-agency delivery of services approach. This becomes an integral part of the treatment plan. The design is to perpetuate and establish positive relationships with juveniles, families, and the community. Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) standards for the Secure Post Adjudication Facilities is used to operate the facility.

Visitation Rules and Telephone Rules
1. All visitors must abide by the rules and policies of the Detention Center. Failure to cooperate can result in loss of visitation privileges. 
2. In order to maximize security of residents, staff and visitors, any person entering the Detention Center is subject to frisk search or search with a metal scanner. 
3. Personal belongings are not allowed in the Detention Center. Please lock your purse, backpacks, bags, etc. securely in your vehicle, or use a locker in the lobby. 
4. Disorderly behavior will result in termination of the visit and the police department being contacted. 5. Intoxicated individuals are no allowed to visit. 
6. Any attempt by a visitor to bring contraband into the Detention Center results in the loss of visitation privileges and/or charges filed. Contraband includes but is not limited to: food, candy, cigarettes, drugs, weapons, cell phones, etc., or any item not authorized by the Department. 
7. No eating, drinking, or smoking is allowed during visits. Do not bring treats, snacks, grooming items, books, letters, toys or other items. Paperback (no hardcover) religious books are accepted but the Juvenile Department is not responsible for damage or loss. 
8. Only Parents and Guardians, or/and Custodians are allowed to visit a resident of the Detention Center. 
9. Visits are limited to 30 minutes with resident. They may be shorter when there are many visitors waiting. In situations including two or more residents (brothers or sisters) the 30 minutes can be used for one visit with both residents together or divided at 15 minutes each. 
10. No child may have more than one visiting period per day. Visitors may share this 30-minute period. Where there are two sets of parents, they must coordinate to visit together or divide a 30-minute visitation period (15 minutes each). 
11. Special visits must be requested through the child’s probation officer. Restrictions do apply.
