Security: Level 3 (Male)
Level 3 facilities are high-security institutions designed primarily to house violent offenders with longer sentences, and inmates who exhibit behavioral problems. Housing consists of single and double cells, and all perimeters are double-fenced with extensive electronic surveillance. Inmates at level 3 facilities are closely supervised and their activities and movement within the institution are highly restricted.
Education: Literacy, GED preparation, high school courses, and college correspondence courses.
Vocational Training: Electrical, carpentry, welding and dog grooming.
Industries: Various recycling projects for a private sector company. Manufacturing apparel, mattresses, and pillows for institutional use.
Health Care: Routine medical and dental care on site with 24-hour medical coverage. Licensed infirmary. Area Mental Health Care.
Programs: Operation Behind Bars, PUSD ABE High School, Prison Industry Enterprise Programs, Better Living Incentive Community (BLIC) Character Unit, Addictions Treatment Unit, Long Term Offender Program, Jumpstart, Healing Species Rescue Dog Program, Beekeeping Program, Chaplaincy Services, Recreation Services, Mental Health Unit, CDL Training, Volunteer Services, and Hospice Program.
Community Services: Serves as one of the video conferencing sites for parole hearings in conjunction with the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services.
Lee Correctional Institution is a level 3 maximum security prison located in Bishopville South Carolina. Level 3 correctional institutions houses some of the most dangerous and violent offenders who have committed serious crimes, and houses inmates who have presented a challenge to manage at other lower security facilities. The maximumcapacity of Lee Correctional Institution is 1,603 adult male offenders. Lee Correctional Institution participates in the correctional industries program employing inmates in operations that are responsible for packaging undergarments, hosiery and socks for privately contracted companies. This facility also operates a clothing factory, and a pillow and mattress recycling center.
Inmates at Lee Correctional Institution can participate in vocational classes in electrical wiring, welding, dog grooming, and carpentry. Offenders can also receive educational training in adult basic education, literacy, earn a GED, and even take correspondence college courses. During an inmate’s incarceration that can receive substance abuse treatment, mental health services, and can receive on site medical and dental care.

No cellphones, you will be searched before visiting. NO personal belongings. Persons under probation, parole, or other community corrections supervision must obtain the permission of both their individual supervising officer and the superintendent prior to a visit. Such visitation is not normally approved.
If the visitor is under the age of 18 and is a family member of the inmate, they must be accompanied by an adult family member or guardian to include a member of the inmate's extended family. If the visitor is under the age of 18 and is not a family member of the inmate, the minor visitor must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
