Scioto County OH Jail basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 740-355-8277

This facility is for adult inmates.

The Scioto County OH Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 1025 16th St Portsmouth, OH which is operated locally by the Scioto County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Scioto County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Portsmouth Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

INMATE COMMISSARY – The Scioto County Sheriff's Office operates an inmate commissary from which inmates may order items that include hygiene items, candy, chips, snacks, stamped envelopes, paper, pencils, coffee, board games and etc. All commissary items must be ordered from the Scioto County Jail Commissary Kiosk. Items from the public will not be permitted, accepted or allowed within the jail.

Inmates are allowed to order twice a week, once on Monday and once on Thursday. In order for an inmate to use the money on his/her commissary account for their orders, all money must be deposited no later than 9:30 am on the day the order is to be submitted. All inmate commissary orders are limited to $60.00 per order.

Another option to ordering commissary is for family and or friends to send a "care package" to the inmate by placing the order online through a program called "Access Securepak".

DEPOSIT MONEY FOR INMATE –Family & friends may leave money on the inmate's commissary account by personally coming into the Scioto County Sheriff's Office between the hours of 8:00 am thru 4:00 pm and depositing the money at the Administrative Office. Cash deposits only are accepted. You may also mail a certified money order to the office but please make sure you place the name of the inmate in the memo section. Finally, family and friends may also deposit money into the inmates account by going online at "www.accesscorrections.com".

INMATE COMMISSARY REFUND – When an inmate is released from jail and the inmate has unused funds on his/her commissary account, the inmate may receive a refund by simply going to the Administrative Office between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday thru Friday to request a refund. The inmate must have a photo identification card. Refunds can only be released to the inmate and no other individual. No Exceptions! Inmates will be issued an "ACCESS FREEDOM" debit card loaded with the remaining balance. Please thoroughly read the following links "ACCESS FREEDOM DEBIT CARD" to understand how the "ACCESS FREEDOM" debit card works and how to avoid being charged fees from the remaining unused balance.
