The Shelby County KY Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 1000 Detention Rd Shelbyville, KY which is operated locally by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Shelby County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Shelbyville Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

Shelby County KY Detention Center – Visitation

Please call (502) 633-2343 to schedule a visitation. All visitations are behind glass visits – no exceptions.

• We have video kiosks to set a visit up in the lobby or to schedule a visit from home users.  You must follow directions on inmatesales.com website.

Visitation Rules

1. Please call ahead and schedule a visitation appointment. Visits must be scheduled on Monday – Friday, between 7:30 am – 2:30 pm. Appointments for weekdays must be scheduled on the same day of the appointment. To schedule a visitation appointment that will meet on the weekend, please call the Friday before. Calls will not accepted before 7:30 am. (502) 633-2343
2. Inmates are allowed one visit per week.
3. Visitors must have a Photo I.D. unless under the age of 18.
4. Each inmate is allowed 2 adult visitors and up to 3 children (under 18 we consider a child)
5. We require a callback phone number.
6. Visit caller will be given a code number to use to change or cancel a visit.
7. Please be sure to be on time for your scheduled appointment.
8. Lewd behavior or inappropriate dress will not be permitted. You will be asked to leave and you will not be allowed to visit in the future.
9. Do not bring in anything. Soft drinks and snacks may be purchased in lobby.
