The Surry County NC Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 218 N Main St Dobson, NC which is operated locally by the Surry County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Surry County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Dobson Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Surry County Detention Center is comprised of 32 Detention Officer, led by the Detention Lieutenant. There are four squads that work twelve-hour shifts on a rotating basis. Each Squad has a Sergeant, a Senior Officer, and five Detention Officers. There are two Detention Officers assigned to transportation. One Detention Officer is assigned as the Courtroom Officer. The Detention Division provides for the supervision, safety, and security of the Detention Center and the inmates which are in the custody of the Sheriff. The Surry County Detention Center can house a total of 125 inmates. The Surry County Detention Center houses both male and female inmates. The Detention Center handles more than 60 transports a month which totals approximately 13,000 miles a month in driving distance.
