This facility is for adult inmates.
The Sutter County Main Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 1077 Civic Center Blvd Yuba City, CA which is operated locally by the Sutter County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Sutter County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Yuba City Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
Sutter County's Main Jail facility is facility that has undergone several upgrades since originally constructed in 1977. A major kitchen renovation, a 148-bed minimum facility, and a 62-bed felony dorm addition were added to the original design. A 52-bed maximum security single-cell unit was completed in 1999. The inmates housed in the single cells are considered high-risk inmates.
The jail facilities are staffed by over 75 full and part-time employees, and the Jail Division Commander oversees the diverse needs of the inmate population. In addition to performing traditional custody functions, the Corrections Section is charged with providing security as bailiff’s assigned to the Sutter County Consolidated Courts in both criminal and family law cases.
Correctional officers also aid the other services provided by the office to the community by becoming members of many of the specialized units of the office such as the dive team, swift water rescue team, an honor guard, just to name a few.
The Sutter County Jail currently offers the following ancillary classes at the facility for the inmate:
- Moral Recognition Therapy – MRT is an evidence-based program that targets anti-social attitudes and behaviors, therefore training, teaching, and changing the perspective of the offender to gain more socially acceptable moral thinking and behavior.
- Coping with Anger –This program targets offenders “…who have problems with managing feelings of anger and frustration in an appropriate way.” Coping With Anger: A Cognitive Behavioral Workbook is designed for eight group sessions focusing on teaching and practicing anger management skills. - Peer Relationships – Formerly Untangling Relationships, this program directly confronts the key issues of codependency including manipulation and dependent relationships. The new curriculum provided by Courage for Change is evidence-based, interactive journaling that is facilitated in a group setting in the jail.
- GED – Provides general education to inmates to assist them in preparing for the GED exam so they can receive their high school equivalency.
- Hepatitis C Education – Provides education and/or information on the medical maladies associated with Hepatitis C, methods of contracting Hepatitis C and how to prevent contracting Hepatitis C.
