The USP-Lompoc is a federal prison located at 3901 Klein Blvd in Lompoc, CA. This federal medium security prison is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to hold inmates who have been convicted to and sentenced for a federal crime through the US Department of Justice (DOJ).

The United States Penitentiary, Lompoc (USP Lompoc) is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates in California. It is part of the Lompoc Federal Correctional Complex (FCC Lompoc) and is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the US Department of Justice. The facility also has a satellite prison camp for minimum-security male inmates. It was formerly a military disciplinary barracks on Camp Cooke. USP Lompoc is located within the city of Lompoc, 175 miles northwest of Los Angeles, adjacent to Vandenberg Air Force Base.

The USP (Medium) security complex also contains a high-security wing known as the "SHU" or "Special Housing Unit". Inmates may be placed in the SHU as a disciplinary measure or for administrative reasons.

There are two minimum security prison camps that also house adult male inmates.

USP Lompoc requires all inmates to participate in work assignments or educational programs. Work assignments include food service (cooks, bakers, butchers), mechanical service (electricians, plumbers, carpenters), education/recreation service (librarians, clerks, tutors), laundry, and unit orderlies. The penitentiary also operates a farm where the inmates can also be assigned work. Educational programs available to the prisoners include General Education Development Program (the GED Program), the Spanish GED, English as a Second Language, Adult Continuing Education, Post-Secondary Education, Parenting, Vocational Training, apprenticeships, and release preparation. Recreational activities are also organized for the inmates. Recreational activities include softball, basketball, crafts, and other leisure activities.

Lompoc United States Penitentiary has had many notable inmates. Ivan Boesky the infamous Wall Street speculator made $80 million using an insider trading scheme, Reed Slatkin the co-founder of Earthlink plead guilty to stealing $593 million from investors in a Ponzi scheme that was later featured on CNBC's tv program American Greed, Auburn Calloway who attempted to hijack a FedEx plane and attempting to murder the crew members is serving two life sentences. H.R. Haldeman was the White House Chief of Staff for President Richard Nixon and was the key figure of the Watergate Scandal and was convicted in 1975 of conspiracy and obstruction of justice. Haldeman was incarcerated for 18 months and released in 1978. Herbert W. Kalmbach was the personal attorney for President Nixon. Demetrius Flenory co-founder of the Black Mafia Family criminal organization; pleaded guilty in 2007 to lead a national drug trafficking operation based in Detroit, Michigan with his brother, Terry Flenory, who was also sentenced to 30 years. And Chuck Muncie, who was a former NFL player (San Diego Chargers and New Orleans Saints) that served 18 months at Lompoc after pleading guilty to selling cocaine to an undercover FBI agent. Muncie was released from custody in 1992.

Housing: Inmates are housed in one-person and two-person cells. There are a total of eleven housing units. Inmates at the camp are housed in open dormitories.

Health Services: USP Lompoc offers sick call, chronic care, medications, routine dental care, medical and dental emergency care for injuries and sudden illness, eyeglasses, age-appropriate preventive care to promote optimal health and functional status, restorative care to promote achievable functional status, long-term care, and end-of-life care. Inmates must submit a triage form to be evaluated for non-emergency health care needs. Emergency medical services are available 24 hours a day.

Psychology Services: USP Lompoc inmates have access to intake screening, assessment, and treatment of mental health and drug abuse problems, individual and group counseling, psycho-educational classes, self-help, supportive services, and referral to Health Services for medical treatment of mental illness. Regular treatment groups include anger management, HIV/AIDS Awareness, and criminal thinking.

Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP): USP Lompoc does not house a Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). The facility does provide a Drug Abuse Education Course, the Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program (NR-DAP), and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).

Education Services: USP Lompoc provides literacy, GED, and English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) programs. Incentive awards are provided to recognize inmates making satisfactory progress and successfully completing the literacy (i.e., GED and ESL) program. Inmates may also receive incentives for progressing to various levels in the GED or ESL programs. Graduation ceremonies recognize GED, ESL, and Occupational Education completions. High school diplomas and post-secondary programs are available through paid correspondence programs.

Advanced Occupational Education: USP Lompoc offers advanced occupational education in the following occupations: Welding, Barber, and Construction.

Vocational Training: USP Lompoc offers vocational training in hydroponics and construction.

Library Services: USP Lompoc houses both leisure and law libraries. The leisure library offers magazines, newspapers, fiction, nonfiction, and reference books. Inmates are provided access to legal materials and an opportunity to prepare legal documents through the use of the TRULINCS Electronic Law Library. A copying machine is available to reproduce materials needed for research. Electric typewriters are also available for inmate use.

UNICOR: The USP Lompoc UNICOR facility produces electronics and plastics and handles services.

Commissary: Inmates are permitted to spend up to $360.00 per month. Inmates may only shop once a week on their designated shopping day. Copy cards, postage stamps, and over-the-counter medications do not count against the spending limitation.

Recreation Services: Recreation, leisure, wellness, and social programs are available to USP Lompoc inmates. Leisure activities include organized and informal games, sports, physical fitness, table games, hobby crafts, music programs, intramural activities, social and cultural organizations, and movies. Art activities include painting and sketching rendered in any of the usual media (e.g., oils, pastels, crayons, pencils, inks, and charcoal). Hobbycraft activities include ceramics, leatherwork, models, clay, mosaics, crochet, knitting, sculptures, and woodworking. Wellness programs include screening, assessments, goal setting, fitness/nutrition prescriptions, and counseling.
