This facility is for adult inmates.
The Valencia County Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 436 Courthouse Rd Los Lunas, NM which is operated locally by the Valencia County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Valencia County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Los Lunas Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Valencia County Adult Detention Center are only permitted to give detainees family, friends, or general public the following information regarding detainee incarcerated at this Detention Facility:
- Bond amounts associated with those charges
- Criminal charges detainee are currently being detained for and
Any additional information specific to a detainee housing, their classification, mental health, or medical status is not a matter of public record and will not be disclosed to the public, no exceptions.
Property Release
The Detention Center does not permit a detainee to release their personal property to the public unless deemed an emergency by Detention Official, in which case the detainee will be required to submit written request to release property explaining the reason(s) for the request.
The Warden or Deputy Warden will then determine whether or not the reason is valid. Requests for the release of property will not be accepted by Friends or family members. All requests for the release of their property must be made by the detainee personally.
Letters Containing contraband will be returned to sender. Detainees are not allowed to receive items such as:
- Stamps
- Blank/ Colored Paper
- Paper Clips or Staples
- Magazine articles or Newspaper
- Inappropriate pictures or Polaroid pictures
- Stickers (to include address labels) or glue
- Tape
- Cash, checks, or money orders
- Anything gang-related
- Crayon, marker or Colored pencil (blue or black ink only)
- No makeup/ lipstick or perfume
- Photos larger than 5"x7"
- Maximum of 10 photos
Accepting Property
The Detention Center will not accept property for detainee from the public, friends, or family.
How to add money to a Detainee account
Valencia County Detention Center provides several ways for family/friends to make funds available to detainee. Detainees can use those funds to make phone calls, order hygiene products or snacks. We accept money orders at the front lobby Monday- Friday 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. We do not accept cash, checks, or money orders from Allsup's, any other kind of money will be accepted.
Funds can also be deposited online at mycarepack.com. This website allows you to add money or place an order for a detainee. Detainee orders must be placed by Thursday 12 a.m. for the detainee to receive his/her commissary on the day of delivery. You may also add money via telephone by calling MyCarePack at 866-394-0490.
How to set up your phone to accept detainee phone calls
You can set up your phone to accept detainee phone calls by simply calling Securus at 1-800-844-6591. You may also add phone time to your line so the detainee has phone time when they call your phone or they can use the money they have on their books. Visitor Dress Code
No hats, jackets, shorts, tank tops exposing the midriff area, tight or short dresses and or skirts, open sandal foot wear, clothing promoting gang activity or drug paraphernalia or any other clothing articles Detention Officials deem inappropriate for visitation
Authorized Visitors
The detainee will be in charge of their visitation list. Forms are available in the housing unit. Their form can:
- Have 5 people per list, children (under 18) are not included in the 5
- Only be changed after 6 months
Contraband
According to NM State Statute 30-22-14 “Bringing contraband into a jail consists of carrying contraband into the confines of a County or Municipal Jail. Whoever commits bringing contraband into a Jail is guilty of a fourth degree felony.
Definition of Contraband
Any deadly weapon, or an essential component part thereof, including ammunition, explosive devices and explosive materials, but does not include a weapon carried by a Peace Officer in the lawful discharge of his or her duties. Currency brought onto the grounds of the institution for the purpose of transfer to an inmate but does not include carried into areas designated by the Warden as areas for the deposit and receipt or currency for credit to a prisoner's account before contact is made with any prisoner.
Any alcohol beverage [or] any controlled substance, as defined in the Controlled Substance Act but does not include a controlled substance carried into a prison/jail through regular prison/jail channels and pursuant to the direction or prescription of a regularly licensed physician. Furthermore, no cameras, tape recorders or cell phones will be allowed to be carried by any persons entering the facility.
