The Van Buren County MI Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 205 S Kalamazoo St Paw Paw, MI which is operated locally by the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Van Buren County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Paw Paw Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Van Buren County Jail is an Adult Correctional Facility located in Paw Paw, Michigan with a capacity of 213 inmates. It is governed by the Administrative Rules for Jails by the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Inmates receive regularly delivered mail on all dates operated by the US Postal Service. All mail received at the Van Buren County Jail is opened and inspected for contraband. To send mail to an inmate at this facility, use the following format:

All incoming mail must:
- Be on a postcard purchased from the post office.
- The stamp must be embedded in the paper unless it is attorney mail.
- Friends and family may send pictures and money orders in an envelope. However, it must be noted on the outside of the envelope. Otherwise, it will be returned to sender.
- Beginning February 1st we will no longer be accepting hard copies of photographs. All photographs for inmates will only be authorized through our TELMATE system as digital prints. There is no limit on the number of photographs that can be sent to an inmate through this system. Photos will be reviewed before they are allowed into the system and accessible to the inmate.
- Books and magazines mailed through a store or online business is authorized.

- Valid medical prescriptions are accepted after review/verification by medical staff.
- Work release inmates may have 1 set of clean clothing dropped off in exchange for their used clothing throughout their stay.

Rules & Procedures for “ON-SITE” Video visits
(On-site visits are located at the Van Buren Co. Jail lobby)
- The duration of each visit is 30 minutes.
- No more than 2 visitors present for each visit. (this does not include children)
- All visits are recorded and subject to electronic monitoring by the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
- It is suggested that the visitor arrive 10 minutes prior to your scheduled visit. Visitors arriving late will only receive the balance of the remaining visiting time, or may not be allowed to visit, depending on the circumstances.
- No nudity, provocative or tight-fitting clothing will be allowed during the visit.
- Only those scheduled to visit will be allowed in the visitation area. During a visit, the visitor is required to remain at the visitation booth. If the visitor leaves the visitation booth, then the visit will be subject to termination.
- Visitors appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, will not be permitted into the video visitation area and their visit will be cancelled.
- Visitors under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
- NO cell phones or any other electronic devices are permitted in the lobby.
- Loud talking, excessive emotionalism, or any type of disruptive behavior will not be permitted.
- Any damage or deface of the equipment video visitation both can lead to prosecution.
- If you experience a problem with the audio or video reception during your visit, utilize the Telemate kiosk phone (Telemate, kiosk w/phone attached directly to it; direct connect to Telemate.
ALL VISITS MUST BE PRE-SCHEDULED
The lobby is open 24 hours a day if you would like to schedule your visit from a lobby terminal. Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office reserves the right to deny, cancel or terminate a video visit prior to or during a video session is based upon visitor or resident inmate misconduct. Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office also reserves the right to restrict a visitor from participating in all future use of the system. The inmate must approve your visitation request in order for the scheduled time to be locked in and confirmed.
Rules & Procedures for OFFSITE Video Visits
- Charges may apply when participating in a remote visitation using a computer, webcam, and high-speed internet access.
- You can schedule for a visit at any time (or "Visit Now").
- No nudity, provocative or tight-fitting clothing. No use of cell phones, or any other electronic devices.
- All visits are recorded and subject to electronic monitoring by the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
- Visitors under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
- If you experience a problem with the audio or video reception during your visit, you can contact Telemate by using the phone connected to the Kiosk, or the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
