The West Baton Rouge Parish Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 1150 Northwest Dr Port Allen, LA which is operated locally by the West Baton Rouge Parish County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. West Baton Rouge Parish County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Port Allen Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The West Baton Rouge Parish Detention Center provides for the incarceration of persons in pre-trial or post-trial status, federal detainees and Louisiana Department of Correction detainees, and provides jail services for all law enforcement agencies in West Baton Rouge Parish. The facility was constructed to house 330 inmates, 297 males and 33 females. The facility has been self-sufficient since its inception and utilizes an 80-acre garden to help defray costs of feeding the inmates. The Detention Center handles approximately 3400 bookings in a single calendar year.
Weekly programs offered to the inmates include General Education Development (GED), Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous (AA/NA), non-denominational religious programs; the jail provides 24 hours a day / 7 days a week access to inmates by clergy and counsel by arrangement.
